Students at Calkins Road Middle School wrote over 70 letters to veterans taking part in the Honor Flight Mission to Washington, DC. These brave men and women visited the war memorial and recognized fallen soldiers during this once in a lifetime trip. In their letters, students thanked them for their service, wished them a safe trip and asked them questions about their time in the military.
The Honor Flight Network is a national nonprofit organization comprised of independent hubs working together to achieve a shared goal of appreciating and honoring our nation’s veterans with a trip to Washington, DC where they can visit the memorials built to commemorate their service and sacrifice. During Honor Flight missions, veterans have the opportunity to meet other comrades, remember the fallen, and share their stories and experiences with other veterans. Honored veterans travel free of charge, thanks to generous donations. Honor Flight Network has flown over 300,000 veterans to Washington, DC since its inception in 2005.
While initially focused solely on America’s World War II era veterans, Honor Flight Network has expanded its mission to include those who served during the Korean War and the Vietnam War eras. The Honor Flight TLC program also honors veterans of any service era who are critically ill.
